The collections of the Hôtel des Arts

Through the various exhibitions at the Hôtel des Arts, the département of Var has acquired works of art (via purchases and donations) and has gradually built a collection. Its current holdings include 209 works by 47 artists, primarily in the areas of photography and painting.

The collection provides:

• Support for the arts and for the diversity of artistic expression
• A presence for the département at national and international levels via loans from the collection to contemporary art centres, museums and foundations. In 2007, 68 pieces from the collection were loaned, either for "Beyond the Walls" exhibitions or for exhibitions outside the Var.
• The basis for temporary exhibitions within the département.

The Beyond the Walls exhibitions offer a selection of works from the collection. They are presented thematically (such as the Photo Construite (Reworked Photography) exhibition at the Centre Sebastien in Saint-Cyr, or the Shapes and Colours exhibition at the Maison des Arts in Carcès) or by artist (Stone, Shadow and Light in Callian: the Photography of Lucien Hervé).
